If you drop a small animal like a mouse from a tall building vs a large animal like an elephant onto a soft surface the small animal will survive. This is because the ratio of surface area to volume is massively different (area n^2, volume n^3) and Kinetic Energy grows directly with mass (KE = 0.5 m (v^2)). So an elephant has to withstand much more Kinetic Energy upon impact.
